After a month of working on this piece off and on between work and real life, I am finally satisfied with the concept, the balance, and the colors.
Keep in mind I don't play video games, so when starting this piece I had no idea who Shiva was. I just saw my friend's (~UrbanBallerinaEsq) picture and thought it would look so much muchier with my stylistic touches / manipulation to it.
At first I had the character color all wrong, and I had no idea what that "white stuff" on her face was, so I had to do my research. I found that in some art Shiva is blue, and in others she is purple, or white... depending on what version you were looking at. Well, this indeed caused a problem... What color do I go with? How bout all of them, just undertones of each. Ok, problems solved.
Then the waves, those pesky waves. They weren't splooshy enough. Here comes hours of huge screen airbrushing.
And the hair... oh the hair. You see, the picture I chose to edit, was already edited by the original photographer, so I didn't have the option of working with a fresh stock image. I don't know why I really wanted to challenge myself. But this required a lot of airbrushing to get the picture where I wanted it... a clean fantasy residual self image version of the cosplay outfit my friend created, and hopefully a really awesome version of Shiva that both me and my super picky other half were satisfied with.
